Belarus government considering crypto mining with additional energy supply



Belarusi President Alexandr Lakashnco has instructed the newly appointed officials citing an additional power supply and increasing demand to prefer improvement in energy infrastructure and detect domestic cryptocurrency mining.

Talking to the newly appointed Energy Minister Alexi Kushnaranko, Lusashenko emphasized the need to update the power grid of Belarus, especially 5,700 km network for homes and electric vehicles, is important, According For local reporting.

He said that while the high-voltage infrastructure is stable, other areas are required to be reinforced to prevent exit like people seen in the Gamel region after recent storms.

The government aims to ensure reliable electricity for 1,500 settlements.

This Pro-Crypto mining spirit is not new, as Belarus Energy Minister, Victor Karankevich, back in 2021, confirmed that the government detected the ability to use its additional energy supply for crypto mining.

He allegedly conducted a detailed study on mining’s viability and risks, keeping in mind the success of mining industries in countries such as China, the United States, Canada and Russia.

Extension of power use for heating and crypto mining

Lusashenko also pushed for more use of electricity for heating and hot water, citing plans for another nuclear power station. He implicated it as a long -term strategy to meet public demand and provide a permanent energy future for Belarus.

According to local reports, while addressing the ability of cryptocurrency mining, Lusashenko referred to increasing global interest in the country’s surplus power and digital assets.

He suggested that Belarus can either attract investors into Crypto’s mine or establish state-supported mining operations, asking authorities to streamline the rules and propose actionable plans.
