Congress is bringing Tigran Gambari, the executive of the Congress French Hill Binens, as his guest as the Sangh’s address.
Gambari spent eight months in a Nigerian jail on allegations of tax evasion and money laundering, which was later removed.
Former IRS criminal investigator and head of Financial Crime Compliance of Binens, Gambari, was detained in February 2024, while in Nigeria for meetings with government officials.
He was kept in Kuje Jail, where he developed a herniated disc and malaria. His detention inspired the call from American MPs and officials for his release.
Hill and Representative Rich McCormic, while presenting a resolution in July 2024, led the efforts to secure the independence of Gambari, urging his release. Hill saw him in jail and later described his declining health.
The Nigerian court dismissed the allegations in October, allowing Gambari to return to the United States. He said:
Gambari posted on X, “I am honored for being a guest of Congress Hill. I want to give him my life.”
The presence of Gambari in the Union State underlines the risks faced by officials working in global finance and cryptocurrency.
While Binance is subject to regulatory investigation worldwide, their detention expressed concern about the legal challenges related to the industry. Hill’s invitation has played the role of advocating Americans detained abroad.
